Tapan Ray today took charge as Corporate Affairs Secretary, replacing Anjuly Chib Duggal who assumed office as Financial Services Secretary.

Prior to this appointment, Ray, a Gujarat-cadre civil servant, was Additional Secretary in the Department of Electronics. He was in that position since September 2014.

Ray formally joined the Corporate Affairs Ministry today, sources said.

He has taken charge at a time when the Ministry is working on ways to improve the ease of doing business in the country and also ensure strict implementation of the new companies law.

In recent times, the Ministry has effected many changes to Companies Act, 2013 -- whose most provisions came into effect from April 1 last year.

Besides, the Ministry is gearing up to implement the new accounting standards which would be mandatory from April 2016.

Ray has done his post graduation in Public Policy and International Affairs and holds diplomas in German language, international law and international business.

He has served in various capacities in Gujarat between 1984 and 1994, after which he held various positions at Centre in Power, Science and Technology, Textiles and Defence Ministries before going back to the state cadre in 2006. Ray came back to the Centre in September last.
