Tapioca, sown currently, would fetch Rs.12 to Rs.14 a kg at the time of harvest in November-December, according to a price forecast by Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU).
Since most of the tapioca growers are switching over to other crops, particularly maize in Salem district, production and area of tapioca has stabilised from last year.
Considering this, Agro Marketing Intelligence and Business Promotion Centre in TNAU carried out an analysis of 10 year wholesale price of tapioca in Salem Market to provide information to the growers.

The analysis revealed that when sowing is taken in the month of March and harvesting done by Nov.-Dec., the prices would be in the range of Rs.12 and Rs.14 per kg, it said.
Three hybrids of tapioca are grown in Tamil Nadu, mainly for industrial purpose such as sago and starch, occupying more than 75 per cent of the total area in Salem, Dharmapuri and Namakkal districts.
Tamil Nadu and Kerala are the two major tapioca growing states in the country accounting for 98 per cent of total area.
It is grown as a food crop in Kerala while in Tamil Nadu it is for industrial purpose.
