The wife of Marathi film producer Atul Tapkir, who allegedly killed himself at a hotel here, was today arrested along with three others on the charge of abetment of suicide, police said.

Atul's wife Priyanka Tapkir (32), Prasad alias Balu Gavhnae, Kalyan Gavhane and Bapu Thigale were arrested by Deccan Gymkhana police under IPC sections 306 (abetment of suicide) and 34 (common intention).

The Gavhanes are not related to Priyanka, but she apparently treats them as brothers, while Thigale is her cousin, police said.

After the arrest, they were produced in a court here, which remanded them in one-day police custody.

Tapkir (35), who had produced the film "Dhol Tashe" (2015), allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison inside his room at a hotel in the city on Sunday.

Late on Saturday night, he had posted on Facebook that he was going to commit suicide due to the problems between him and his wife.

He also alleged that his wife's two 'brothers' (Gavhanes) had assaulted him and Thigale, who is a cousin of Priyanka, had threatened him.

Atul's father, Bajirao Tapkir, lodged a complaint against them. Based on the Facebook post and his father's complaint, the case was registered.

Tapkir, a resident of Pimple Nilakh near Pune, had alleged in the Facebook post that his wife was harassing him.

According to the post, she had registered a case against him and his father over a family dispute, and the police took Rs 10,000 for not arresting him and his father in the matter.

The film produced by him did not do well and he had lost a lot of money which led to marital problems, he had said in the post.
