A 38-year-old supervisor in a state-owned TASMAC liquor outlet today attempted suicide as he was unable to bear alleged pressure from senior officials to pay Rs 1.26 lakh 'swindled' by one of the three staff at the shop in neighbouring Tirupur District.

Antony consumed poisonous cowdung powder and was found unconscious near a temple in Udumalpet by some passersby, who admitted him to a government hospital, police said.

He later told police that he was depressed due to the pressure exerted by senior officials who held him responsible for the recent loss of Rs 1.26 lakh, allegedly swindled by one of the three staff who work under him in the shop.

Police said they also recovered a suicide note from Antony which stated that he has decided to end his life due to pressure over losing money from the shop and senior officials asking him to repay the amount.

Senior TASMAC officials had been informed about the incident, police said.
