The Income Tax Department will hold a tax awareness drive on September 14 wherein about 800 schools of Ludhiana district would be covered, an official said today.

In this drive, which is part of the 'Operation Clean Money' programme, each school would be visited by officers/tax professionals/taxpayers/families of employees or retired employees, for creating awareness among students about income tax, said Binay Kumar Jha, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Ludhiana.

Pledge of 'Swacch Bharat, Swacch Dhan' would be administered to the students, staff and employees of the schools, he said.

A tax-tree, called the "Apnakar tree", would be planted in each school, for imbibing the value and role of taxes in national development, and the need for becoming diligent taxpayers.

"This drive is expected to cover over five lakh school students. This initiative will be the first ever taxation outreach to school students on such a large scale, and perhaps the largest single direct outreach about Income Tax in India," he added.
