Tax officer arrested for graft in Rajasthan

Rajasthan Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths today arrested an assistant commercial tax officer for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 15,000 for sorting out a penalty levied on a owner of a trading firm, an official said.

The tax officer had demanded a total bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh from the proprietor of the trading firm, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) at the bureau in Jhalawar Prerna Shekhawat said.

Shekhawat said that assistant commercial tax officer Kapil D Asarsa posted in Jhalawar district was caught red handed this afternoon at his office while he was accepting a bribe of Rs. 15,000 from the firm's proprietor

The proprietor, Sourabh Agrawal, had lodged a complaint a few days ago with the bureau, alleging that the tax officer had demanded a bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh for sorting out a penalty related matter of his firm, the ASP said.

 

He had also alleged that he had paid Rs. 1 lakhs about eight months ago, the officer said, adding that the proprietor, however, did not produce any evidence of paying Rs 1 lakh.

Searches are underway at the accused official's residences in Jaipur and Mount Abu.
