Tax officer arrested in Odisha

An Additional Commercial Tax Officer (ACTO) was arrested by anti-corruption vigilance wing in Odisha for allegedly showing undue favour and forgery and cheating in using Way Bill.

ACTO Bhaskar Hari Tripathy of Jamsela Unified Check Gate, was arrested by Officers of Balasore Vigilance Division yesterday on allegation of undue official favour and forgery and cheating in using Way Bill, a vigilance release said.

Vigilance Commercial Tax Wing of Balasore Division intercepted one Truck loaded with 500 bags of wheat coming from Kolkata to Jannla in Khurdha district on the intervening night of May 23-24.

The truck and wheat was under verification as the vehicle had not passed through Jamsela Ghat and had come through by-Pass route through Ambiliatha, Jaleswar to evade sale tax, it said.
 

Though the vehicle was intercepted on May 23-24 night at Bampada, Balasore Town, Tripathy of Jamsela Check gate showed passing of the vehicle on May 24 at 12.09 P.M. Through Jamsela Check Gate using valid Way Bill in order to show undue official favour to the dealer, the release said.

Balasore Vigilance registered a case and subsequently arrested the accused officer, the release added.
