Tax official held for possessing Rs 5 crore DA

A official in the Commercial Tax Department here was today arrested after searches at his residence unearthed assets worth over Rs 5 crore allegedly disproportionate to his known sources of income.

On information that K Venkateswar Reddy, a senior assistant at the office of deputy commissioner, commercial tax department (Hyderabad rural division), was in possession of assets disproportionate to the known sources of his legal income, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) carried out searches at his residence and other places.

The ACB officials registered a DA case against him and several documents pertaining to the assets, income and expenditure of the accused officer were seized after raids, an ACB release said.
 

The searches revealed that Reddy was in possession of five plots and constructed three multi-storey buildings on them.

He also possessed a flat and four shops in different parts of the city, 444 grams of gold and a car, all worth about Rs 5.18 crore, as per the registered documents and sale agreements, it said.

Reddy was subsequently arrested even as ACB officials continued with the investigation.
