Taxi driver steals jewellery from bride in marriage hall, held

An SUV taxi driver who allegedly stole 30 sovereigns of jewellery from the baggage of a bride in the city was arrested today, police said.

P Jayapal (32) stole the jewellery casket and Rs 2,500 cash from her baggage on June 8 while she and her husband boarded the vehicle hours after they tied the nuptial knot in a marriage hall at T Nagar area here.

The valuables were stolen during its transfer to the taxi from the hall premises, police said.

After reaching their destination in suburban Madipakkam the couple found the jewellery and cash missing and lodged a complaint with police.
 

CCTV footage in the marriage hall helped nab the driver, police said.

On being questioned, he confessed to his crime and the jewellery and cash were recovered from his house, police said.
