city from June six has been postponed after a meeting between taxi operators and transport minister Madan Mitra.
The general secretary of the Bengal Taxi Association, Bimal Guha, said the transport minister has sought time till June 23 for consideration of their nine demands including a fare hike.
"In deference to his request, we are postponing our 48-hour strike which was to begin from June 6," Guha told PTI.
Besides Mitra, top officials in the Transport Department and Kolkata police were present at the meeting.
The strike was called by the Taxi Owner and Drivers Joint Action Committee.
The government recently announced that commuters would have to pay 15 per cent as night charges between 10.30 pm and 6 am.
However, the taxi operators described the charges as inadequate and demanded that they be raised to 30 per cent between 8 pm and 6 am.
