Singer Taylor Swift has praised the city of Manchester for its "incredible resilience" after the last year's terror attack.

During her performance in the city's Etihad Stadium, the 28-year-old singer told the audience that Manchester showed that the victims would never be forgotten.

"Concerts are supposed to be about innocence, and about joy and about excitement. And what happened just over a year ago in this city was an attempt to steal that innocence," Swift said pausing her performance to remember the victims of the attack.

"Ever since then, you have shown such strength. You've shown that you're never going to let anyone forget about those victims. You have such incredible resilience - to keep dancing, and to keep the innocence and to keep the joy. I just wanted to say, Manchester, is it such an honour to play for you tonight," she added.

On May 22 last year, 22 people were killed after a suicide bomber detonated a shrapnel bomb as fans came out of singer Ariana Grande's concert at Manchester Arena.

With her performance in Manchester, Swift kicked off the European leg of her Reputation tour. It will conclude in New Zealand in November.
