A 30-year-old employee of the Tata Consultancy Services allegedly drowned in a swimming pool at Infocity near Gandhinagar today, the police said.

The incident occurred when Shaishav Chauhan, who used to work in the IT department of the firm in Gandhinagar, entered the swimming pool along with his friends after participating in a Holi bash organised at Infocity Club in morning.

"A party was organised at the Infocity Club today, where at least 400 persons had gathered. After the party, Chauhan and his friends entered the swimming pool to take a bath," said a police official investigating the incident.

He said as many people were present into the pool, no one realised that Chauhan, who could not swim, was drowning.

"When he was not found anywhere, his friends started searching for him. After some time, one of his friends found Chauhan lying unconscious at the bottom of the pool. Though he was rushed to the hospital by his friends, he could not be saved as he died shortly during treatment," the official said.

Police have registered a case of accidental death.

The deceased was a resident of Maninagar area in the city.

When asked about Chauhan's job profile, the official said he was not aware of the details right now.

Police Inspector K M Priyadarshee said Chauhan might have failed to gauge the depth of water as he had removed his glasses before entering the swimming pool.

"Though the organisers had taken permission for the party, guests were not supposed to use the swimming pool located near the club. It is possible that Chauhan, who could not swim, misjudged the depth and eventually drowned as he had removed his spectacles," the officer.
