Andhra Pradesh Congress today accused the ruling TDP government of "betraying" people by not fulfilling the electoral promises, and staged demonstrations at various places.

"The Congress has decided to observe March 31 as 'Telugu Desam Prajavanchana Dinam' (TDP Betrayal Day) every year to highlight the failure of the Chandrababu Naidu-led government in keeping the promises it had made in its election manifesto released on March 31 last year," said state unit Congress President N Raghuveera Reddy.

He said the opposition party organised simultaneous protests at all 49 revenue divisional headquarters in the state.

Reddy alleged the TDP purposefully removed the manifesto from its website recently to avoid the "wrath" of people.

"During the Assembly elections last year, the ruling TDP had listed out about 600 promises, including the waiver of farmers' loans, Dwacra (Development of Women and Children in Rural Areas) groups, and weavers. It also promised filling of vacant posts in various government departments, and not hiking electricity charges. However, not a single promise is fulfilled," he said.

The Leader of Opposition in Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council, C Ramachandraih, former MLAs Malladi Vishnu, Devineni Nehru and party workers participated in a demonstration held at the district sub-collector's office here.
