The ruling TDP and main opposition Congress in Telangana were engaged in a war of words Tuesday over the proposed 'grand alliance' among various opposition parties and other issues.

Hitting out at the proposed alliance among Congress, TDP, CPI and others, TRS leader and state minister K T Rama Rao,son of caretaker Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, said the parties have to explain to the people about the alliance as they had been bitter rivals for decades.

Claiming that TDP's senior leaders in Andhra Pradesh had also felt that the party's proposed alliance with Congress would face opposition from people, Rama Rao said Congress and TDP have to explain the basis and criteria for the formation ofthe alliance.

"Congress, TDP and the Telangana Jana Samiti should give an explanation about the letters written by TDP President and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to the Centre against the irrigation projects in Telangana," he told reporters.

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson Sravan Dasoju said TRS leaders have no moral right to speak anything on the possible alliance between the Congress and TDP.

TRS leaders should clarify as to why and from when TDP and its president Chandrababu Naidu appeared anti-Telangana to them, a party release quoted him as saying.

TRS had an alliance with the TDP in 2009 elections, he said.

It was strange that when TRS enters into an alliance with TDP it is called a 'moral' tie-up and when Congress and TDP join hands, it is described as 'immoral' and 'unholy',he said.

TDP's Telangana unit president L Ramana said Congress and TDP and other parties sought to move ahead with a Common Minimum Programme unconditionally 'to safeguard democracy' and to stand by farmers, unemployed youth and others in Telangana.

The ruling TRS has disappointed various sections of society, he alleged.

The Congress, TDP, TJS and othersare presently engaged in seat-sharing talks for the proposed "grand alliance".

Meanwhile, TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy and other party leaders held talks with top leaders of Congress in Delhi Tuesday on the proposed alliances and other issues.

Reddy spoke to reporters in Delhi.

Assembly polls in Telangana were originally scheduled to be held simultaneously with the Lok Sabha elections next year.

However, the assembly was dissolved earlier this month as per a recommendation of the state cabinet, which necessitated elections ahead of the schedule.
