The TDP's annual conclave will begin here from tomorrow and efforts to emerge as a national party, the welfare and development programmes undertaken by the party government in Andhra Pradesh and its opposition role in Telangana would be among the main agenda.
In the wake of bifurcation of undivided Andhra Pradesh, TDP has recently decided to emerge as a national party to effectively function in both the states and is taking baby steps towards the goal.
The party has initiated membership drive in neighbouring states like Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, besides Andaman and Nicobar Islands, where there is considerable population of Telugu people.
The road ahead and the steps to be taken to become a national party would come up for discussion in the conclave, former MLA and senior leader Payyavula Keshav told PTI.
In tune with plans to become a national party, TDP is likely to have a central committee, a panel being formed for the first time in its 32-year-old history, Keshav said.
The development and welfare measures initiated by the party government in Andhra Pradesh and its opposition role in Telangana would come up for discussion, he said.
The party would also reiterate the promises made to Andhra Pradesh during bifurcation of undivided AP.
A number of organisational and other issues of also party are on the agenda, Keshav added.
There is speculation if Naidu's son Lokesh, who is the coordinator for party's workers' welfare fund, would get an increased role in the party affairs.
Elaborate arrangements are being made for the three-day event to be held at Gandipet on the outskirts of the city.
