The Telugu Desam Party will strive to build a "glorious memorial" for late Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao in New Delhi.

"PV is the pride of Telugu people. Going beyond parties and politics, I will take responsibility of building a glorious memorial befitting his stature," TDP President N Chandrababu Naidu announced today.

Addressing party workers at the TDP's annual conclave "Mahanadu" here, he lashed out at the Congress, saying its "tyrannical high command" humiliated Rao for not toeing its line.

"Such was Congress' spiteful nature that even his last rites were not performed in New Delhi in the way befitting for a former Prime Minister.

"The Telugus will remember these insults forever," said Naidu, who is set to take over as Chief Minister of residuary State of Andhra Pradesh next month.

During the recent election campaign, even Narendra Modi referred to the "insults" heaped on Rao and other eminent Telugu leaders like (former President) Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy and (ex-Chief Minister) T Anjaiah by the Congress.

The TDP has raised the Rao memorial issue in the past too and now that it is part of the NDA Government at the Centre, it wants to turn its words into action.
