A tea garden manager was abducted from his residence by suspected Adivasi militants in Sonitpur district, the police said today.
Bharat Singh Rathore, manager of Pabhoi Tea Garden in Biswanath Chariali town was abducted last night, Superintendent of Police Arabinda Kalita told PTI.
A search operation has been launched in the area since this morning by Army and police.
Local residents and labourers of the tea garden took to the streets protesting against the kidnapping and demanded that the manager be released immediately without any condition.
Of the 60 tea gardens in Sonitpur district, 21 are in Biswanath Chariali and Gohpur sub-division and they are under the threat of different militant outfits.
