Press Trust of India Alipurduar (WB)
Workers of 16 tea gardens of the Duncan group in Alipurduar district today demonstrated in front of their tea gardens demanding immediate payment of pending wages and other benefits.

Eight MLAs of the Left Front and Congress and former RSP MP Manohar Tirkey also joined the workers in the tea gardens at Birpara area.

Tirkey alleged despite several assurance given in tripartite meetings, the management was not running the gardens properly and not paying pending wages and other benefits to the workers.

The workers have no wage, no PF, no ration, no drinking water, no electricity and are forced to work in eleswhere to earn their daily bread, Tirkey said.

The management could not be contacted.
