India's tea production rose by three per cent to 901.67 million kg during January-September period of this calendar year, according to latest data.
Tea output stood at 877.16 million kg in the corresponding period of last year, according to Tea Board data.
The country had produced 1,208.66 million kg in the entire last year.

Production in North India increased to 742.51 million kg during January-September 2016, from 699.33 million kg in the year-ago period. However, tea production fell in South India to 159.16 million kg from 177.83 million kg during the period under review.
In North India, Assam produced 467.48 million kg during January-September 2016 as against 450.09 million kg in the year-ago period. West Bengal's tea production stood at 255.22 million kg as against 230.48 million kg.
However, in South India, Tamil Nadu produced maximum 111.29 million kg tea during January-September 2016 as against 125.37 million kg in the year-ago period.
