A 40-year-old teacher of a government-run primary school in Kendrapara district was arrested today on charge of raping an 8-year-old dalit student inside the school premises.
The girl, a standard 4 student of Dighi primary school under Rajnagar police station jurisdiction of the district, was allegedly sexually assaulted by the accused teacher yesterday, police said.
The accused was arrested today after a complaint was lodged by the victim's father.
The teacher allegedly perpetrated the crime in the multi-purpose cyclone shelter building located inside the school campus. The victim was traumatised following the assault by the teacher. Later she broke down and narrated her harrowing ordeal to parents.
Jena was booked under section - 376, 354 of IPC, prevention of atrocities against scheduled caste and scheduled tribes besides section- 10 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
The teacher has confessed to the crime, Mahakalpada police station inspector Sritikantha Kanungo said.
In the last one year, three teachers were arrested for committing sexual assaults on students across the district.
