Suspected militants abducted a school teacher and a businessman separately in Meghalaya's West Garo Hills district, the police said today.

The teacher of Dalu Higher Secondary School was going to school when he was kidnapped at around 7 AM today.

The teacher and another person hired an auto-rickshaw from district headquarter Tura and when they reached an area near Karengre Lali temple under Dalu police station, six to seven armed men intercepted the vehicle, the police said.

The armed men enquired about the profession of the passengers, brought the teacher out, and let the auto-driver and the other passenger off.

Police suspect the hand of Achik National Volunteer Council - Breakaway (ANVC-B) or ASAK, the breakaway group of Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA), behind the crime.

A shoe trader, Tapan Saha, was kidnapped from Baromile area of Gasuapara, around 20 km from Tura, yesterday, the police said.

With these two, the number of abduction has risen to seven in two weeks. The other five were, however, rescued by security forces.
