Teacher charged with causing death due to negligence

The lady teacher-cum hostel superintendent of a school hostel in Malkangiri district who was arrested after a girl died due to electrocution at the hostel was charged for causing death due to negligence.

Eleven-year-old Koya tribal girl Urmila Kabasi died due to electrocution while she was hanging mosqueto net at the hostel of Project Upper Primary School, Block Colony, Kalimela, on August 2 night. She died on the spot, said Kalimela police station in-charge officer Surenda Kumar Naiak.

Naiak said though the police had earlier registred the matter as a unatural death (UD) case, it later changed the sections keeping an eye on the cicumstances and added section 304(A) which is causing death by negligence.
 

Naik said the police produced lady teacher-cum hostel superitendent Jayanti Sahu before the court after arresting her under section 166, 304 (A) of IPC and section 138 of Indian Electicty Act.

The teacher was denied bail by the judicial magistrate, first class (JMFC), Motu.

Earlier, the lady teacher was suspended by the district administration following an administrative inquiry.
