The body of a teacher attached to a private coaching centre was fished out today from the water of Bay of Bengal in Bakkhali in South 24 Parganas district, while three students are still missing after they went for a bath in the sea, the police said.

A group of 35 people, mostly students from a coaching centre in the city's Ekbalpur area, had gone to the popular sea resort for an outing, the police said.

"The team was led by a teacher Dipak Valmiki and a group of six students including the teacher took to the waters for bathing. The waters swelled abruptly as the high tide kicked in and all six were trapped," said an officer.

"Two students managed to swim to the shore and were rushed to the hospital where their condition was reported as stable. Later in the afternoon, the teacher's body was fished out, while three students are still missing," the officer said adding, a search was on to trace them.
