Teacher killed, protestors damage public property

Vilayati Prasad, a senior teacher of a higher secondary school, was hacked to death by unidentified persons while he was asleep in the school premises in Kahalgaon town, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) K S Anupam said.

The victim's wife and son were questioned in connection with the killing, he said.

A forensic team visited the spot and collected samples for examination, he said.

Students and locals closed all the schools and colleges and sat on dharna on the national highway in protest against the killing. They refused to hand over the body to the police in protest against the killing.

 

The protesters ransacked the ticket reservation counter and smashed four computers there, besides damaging glasses and other utilities of the waiting hall of Kahalgaon Railway Station, the sources said.

"Selling of reservation tickets at Kahalgaon railway station will remain suspended for the next two days for restoration of equipment there", station manager Samar Kumar Singh said.

The protesters also vandalised the sub-division Office (SDO) office and shops in nearby market places, they said.

The agitators damaged Kahalgaon police station and vent their ire on the passing vehicles and smashed window panes of several vehicles, the sources said.

Additional police reinforcement was requisitioned to bring the law and order situation under control and the cops used force to chase away the hoodlums, the police said.
