Teacher suspended for allegedly hitting student

A teacher has been suspended for allegedly hitting a Class VI student with a duster in Odisha's Nabarangpur district, officials said today.

"After preliminary inquiry, the lady teacher Jyoti Behera was was placed under suspension on Friday, while salary of the headmaster has been withheld and a show-cause notice issued to him," district education officer (Nabarangpur) Kulamani Nath Sarma said.

The incident took place on Wednesday when the teacher got angry and allegedly hit him with duster as the student Barun Dandsena of Mahadev Vidyalaya at Nabarangpur went to toilet without seeking her permission, officials said.

Parents of the students have also lodged a complaint against the school headmaster and the teacher at Nabarangpur police station, the polie said adding it was alleged that Dandsena sustained injury in the incident.
 

"We are inquiring into the matter and needful action will be taken," investigating officer of Nabarangpur police station Bhagaban Mishra said.
