An angry school teacher in Odisha's Malkangiri district allegedly tonsured head of a 10th standard student for making jokes by holding hair of another child, police said.

The victim boy identified as Rakesh Mandal of MV-26 area in the district, fled from the hostel after the teacher partially tonsured his head. The boy had stopped taking food and refused to attend classes after being humiliated by the teacher.

The incident took place at the hostel of Netaji High School, Pitakata village last night. The Hindi teacher of the school, Babula Nayak, who was also staying at the hostel along with his family members, allegedly chased the boy and cut his hair. The boy was accused of holding hair of the teacher's child and threatned to cut it.

"We have lodged complaint with the police and drew attention of the district collector after the accused teacher refused to say sorry for his activities," Sudhir Mandal, the boy's father said.

Stating that his son has refused to appear the ensuing annual high school examination scheduled in February, the father demanded action against the erring teacher.
