A woman from Maduravoyal had alleged in her complaint that her tenant Periya Nayagam and his wife had taken money up to Rs five lakh on various occasions, promising a big share in their saree business.
When asked for the money, she was told that since the business did not go well as expected, she would be given land, provided she gave another Rs three lakh, police said.
Since the complainant did not get her share of land, she and others, who had by then given over Rs 69 lakh to the couple, filed a complaint with the police.
