Goa government has sent two different teams of transport department and police to assist the people of the state who were travelling in the bus that met with an accident at Khed in Maharashtra today.
Atleast 37 people were killed and seven injured when the speeding Mumbai-bound luxury bus coming from Goa plunged into the Jagbudi river near Khed in Ratnagiri district.
Goa Transport Minister Ramakrishna Dhavalikar told the Legislative Assembly today that a team of transport department officials, led by a deputy director rank official, has been rushed to the spot.
"Another team of police officials has left for the spot to assist the Goan people who were in the ill-fated bus," he said, adding that they will help the families to get the bodies back to the state.
"The state government will give all possible help to the families of the victims," Dhavalikar said.
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said the government had set up two helplines which were updating information every 15 minutes.
Following the accident, the state government has now proposed that all inter-state buses which cross Goa border will have to give details of the passengers at the check post.
