Tearful adieu to soldiers killed in gunbattle with militants

Army today bid a tearful adieu to four soldiers who were killed in a fierce gunbattle with the militants in Pulwama district in south Kashmir.

The General Officer Commanding of Srinagar-based Chinar Corps, Lt Gen Om Prakash, led the jawans in paying floral tributes to the four soldiers killed in a gunfight in village Buchoo in Tral area yesterday.

A Hizbul Mujahideen militant was also killed in the encounter.

A defence spokesman said the bodies of slain troopers were brought to Badamibagh cantonment where a wreath laying ceremony was held.

Wreaths were placed on behalf of Northern Army Commander Lt Gen K T Parnaik, the spokesman said.
 

Lt Gen Prakash and other senior officers of the garrison also placed wreaths on the coffins of soldiers.

The mortal remains of the brave soldiers have been taken to their hometowns where the cremation ceremony will be held with full military honours, the spokesman said.
