Lakhs of commuters travelling in local trains on main line of Mumbai's Central Railway as well as in mail and express trains were stranded due to a technical glitch in a pantograph between Sion and Matunga railway stations during evening peak hours.

The disruption led to a major bunching of local trains as well as of outstation trains which were stuck on tracks.

Commuters, including women, children and senior citizens, were seen walking on the tracks on main line (CST-Kasara and CST-Karjat) to reach nearest stations.

Adding to their woes of the commuters, power inside the local trains was disconnected.

Railway authorities are not able to say when normalcy will be restored.

The movement of trains on the main line and on slow and fast tracks have come to a standstill.

Services on the Harbour line are on but delayed by over 20 minutes.

CR announced that commuters can travel by Western Railway to reach their destinations.

Meanwhile, commuters complained that cabbies and autorickshaw drivers are demanding higher fares from them.
