'Tech upgradation to help industry compete in global markets'

Union Minister C R Choudhary today pitched for upgrdation of technology by the domestic paper industry to compete in the global markets and boost exports of quality products.

Inaugurating paper exhibition - Paperex - here, the minister of state for commerce and industry also suggested to use recycled inputs to bridge shortage of raw material in the sector.

"Technology upgradation should be done immediately to compete with the global quality," Choudhary said.

He assured that the ministry will look into issues of the sector to promote ease of doing business, improve production and exports.

Over 30,000 visitors and participants from 55 countries are expected to attend the event.
 

Speaking at the occasion, Paperex Director Gagan Sahni said that the country's consumption for paper will go up substantially in the medium term despite the digital creating a lot of buzz.

Currently, per capita consumption of paper is 9.8 kg as compared to 350 kg in the US and global average of 58 kg, he added.
