Sandip Singh (33) lost his life when the lift got jammed between the third and fourth floors of the building and during rescue operation he died, police said.
Deputy Commissioner Punjab Police Satpal Joshi said when the operator, on hearing warning siren, reached to save him and broke the lift door. He found Singh unconscious.
Singh fell down from the lift when the operator tried to pull him out after breaking the door of the lift, he said.
Joshi said the lift operator who should not have gone alone for rescue operation since he was handicapped and misfit for this task.
