In a suspected case of honour killing, a 17-year-old girl was allegedly murdered by her elder brother early this morning at Sanuta village in this district as he was unhappy with the teen meeting her 'lover'.

Later in the day, the accused surrendered at the police station and confessed to his crime and said he has no regrets for it.

Ansh (20) in his statement alleged that his sister Usma would run away from the house quite often which brought shame to the family forcing them to shift from Sardhana village to Sanuta, police said.

But even after taking up residence at Sanuta village, Usma didn't stop meeting her lover, despite him asking her not to do so, Ansh said in his statement.

Angered by this, the accused slit Usma's throat while she was sleeping in the house this morning and fled, police said, adding later in the day he surrendered.

The accused has been arrested and the body has been sent for post-mortem, they said, adding investigation is underway.
