A teenage boy was detained and sent to a child observation home in Faridabad after a female classmate accused him of putting red lead on her head deliberately, police said.

Following a complaint by the victim's family, Gurgaon police registered a case and booked the minor accused under non-bailable sections of the POCSO Act.

The accused was produced before a juvenile justice board, which sent him to a child observation home in Faridabad for a period of 14 days, they added.

"We have arrested the juvenile under relevant sections of POCSO Act and due course of action is underway," Gurgaon Police Commissioner Sandeep Khirwar said.

Police said the incident occurred on Monday, when both the victim and the accused were on their way to school in Farukhnagar.

"The victim in her complaint alleged that her classmate deliberately and forcibly poured red lead (Sindur) on her head. She lost her balance due to sudden action, fell down on the road and injured her head," a senior police officer said.

The victim's family alleged that the accused used red lead, and not Gulal.

"The investigating officer took photographs and collected samples of the colour used by the minor boy and sent it for examination in a laboratory. We are trying to know if he had purchased the colour or got it from his house," the officer said.

Meanwhile the family members of the accused minor alleged that the police was acting under the influence of the girl's family.
