A Juvenile Justice Board today awarded a 15-month term in a special home to a teenaged boy for raping a three-year-old girl in Danilimda area of the city in 2014.

The Board, comprising its Chairman J M Brahmbhatt and member Sudhir Patel, also directed the family members of the 15-year-old to pay a fine of Rs 10000 which will go to the victim's family. It also directed the Social Welfare Department to pay appropriate compensation to them.

The boy will be sent to the special home in Rajkot.

The incident had happened on January 13 last year when five teenaged boys had raped the girl in Danilimda area. While the Board has already awarded the sentence of 15 months in a special home to three of them, another boy was given the term of nine months.

City police had filed a charge sheet against them under sections 363 (kidnapping), 376 (rape), 377 (unnatural sex) of IPC along with various sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POSCO).

The case was referred to the Juvenile Justice Board under the Juvenile Justice (care and protection of children) Act, 2000 as all the accused were minor.
