Teenage girl from Mumbai rescued

Acting on a complaint of the Child Welfare Committee, a police team today rescued a teenage girl hailing from Mumbai, in Salt Lake area near here, police said.

The complaint stated that the girl, a resident of Mumbai was staying at 'Adhyatwik Ishwariya Vishwavidyalay' of Salt Lake and is a minor. The police team visited the institution and rescued the girl, DC(DD) of Bidhanagar Police Commissionerate, Kankar Prasad Barui, said.

Seven persons of the institution were arrested after they tried to prevent policemen from entering the institution and rescue the girl, he said.

"During the initial probe into the incident, it was found that the girl was staying there since February. She was brought there by her parents. But the CWC complained that she was still a minor and cannot stay there. So we had to rescue her," Barui said.
 

The girl has been sent to a government home.

The head of the institution Rabindranath Das was learnt to be "missing".
