A 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a neighbour at Saraitikar in Burdwan district, police said today.
The victim's mother alleged in her complaint that their neighbour Nilu Majhi had asked her daughter to bring a coconut from his home yesterday. When she had gone there, she was raped by Majhi, they said.
After the girl told her mother about the incident, she informed local people who thrashed Majhi and handed him over to the police.
When produced before the court, Chief Judicial Magistrate Salim Ahmed Ansari remanded him to four days police custody.
