Delhi police tonight claimed to have rescued a 16-year-old girl from outer Delhi following a dramatic car chase with two youths who had allegedly kidnapped her.

According to a complaint by father of the girl, who had left home for tuitions, she was spotted in a car in Kanjhawala area of outer Delhi with two youths after which he made a PCR call alleging that she has been kidnapped.

Several PCR vans then scrambled to intercept the car, police said, adding, they managed to rescue the girl after immobilising the car by shooting at its tyres.

The two youths identified as Akshay and Nitin have been detained and a case of kidnapping has been registered against them.

However, one of the suspects claimed that the 16-year-old girl was his girlfriend.

"We are verifying the statements of the two. As they sped away after they saw our vehicles, there are reasons for us to suspect their intentions," a senior police official said, adding, the girl was seemingly scared.

The girl's statement will be recorded before a magistrate tomorrow and further course of action will be decided after that, he said.
