A teenaged boy was killed and five others, including four women, were injured when lightning struck them at Gopiballabhpur in West Midnapore district today.
Uttam Bisui, an higher secondary examinee, was killed on the spot after being hit by thunderbolt during a squall as he was plucking nut in an open field, a police officer said.
Four women and a man, who were also plucking nut nearby, received burn injuries and were taken to local health centre, the officer said.

Two of the injured women were later referred to Jhargram Sadar Hospital as their condition was serious.
While the incident brought pall of gloom in the village, the thunderstorm brought relief from the sweltering heat the district experienced for past several days.
