Teenaged girl allegedly sold by unidentified woman

A 15-year-old girl was rescued from a house in a village here after she was allegedly sold by an unidentified woman, police said today.

The girl, a resident of Pratapgarh, was rescued from a house in Bilsad village here yesterday where she was allegedly sold to one Mahendra Baba, SHO Ramawtar Verma said.

Verma said the girl had run away from her home and wanted to go to her uncle's place in Chandigarh but reached Lucknow, from where she was brought here and sold.

No arrest has been made yet. The girl will be presented before the magistrate to record her statement, police said.
 

The girl informed the police that she had left her home nine months ago.

She said her family members were not willing to keep her as she had escaped from her house several times before, they said.
