A 17-year-old girl was found dead under mysterious circumstances in the rented room of a man in Outer Delhi with police today saying it appeared to be a case of suicide.
The incident was reported from Sector 3 Rohini and the owner of the room Arif has been detained. Police said the girl and Arif were in a relationship.
The deceased's family, who resides in Mongolpuri, had approached police at around 6:30 pm yesterday complaining that she could not be located following which a case of kidnapping was registered immediately, police said.
Following searches, police recovered the body from Arif's room.
"There was a rope around her neck and blood was coming out of her nose. Prima facie, it appears to be a case of suicide. But we are waiting for the post mortem report to ascertain the exact cause," a senior police official said.
Locals staged protest in Mongolpuri alleging delay in the registration of the case, a charge denied by police.
