A 17-year-old boy was attacked with sharp weapons and killed in the presence of a kangaroo court in West Bengal's Bankura district, a police officer said today.

Bankura Superintendent of Police Nilkanta Sudhir Kumar said an FIR had been lodged against 11 persons but no arrest had been made yet.

The kangaroo court was set up yesterday to mitigate a dispute between two families of Raipur's Khayerbani village revolving round the romantic involvement of the boy, Sheikh Momin Ali with his classmate, a girl of the same age, the officer said.

Both the girl and boy were students of Class XII, the officer said.

While the court was hearing the dispute, the girl's relations allegedly attacked Momin Ali with sharp weapons. The injured boy was rushed to Raipur Village Health Centre where he was declared brought dead, the officer said.
