A 12-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a constable posted in Thanagaddi Chowki in Kerakat kotwali area here.
The accused, Shambhu Sharma, who used to live in a rented room in Gaddi Bazar area, allegedly lured his neighbour's daughter last night and raped her.
When the girl recounted the incident, the family reportedly arrived at the police chowki for lodging a complaint but allegedly to no avail.
Locals today gathered at the chowki and indulged in brick batting. They also resorted to blocking traffic.
ADM Radhey Shyam reached the spot with senior police officials and pacified the protesters.
According to ASP Sripati Misra, a case has been registered against the accused constable and he alongwith two others, including the police chowki in-charge, have been suspended.
