With an objective of ensuring against falling stones and land-slides, which causes injuries to the pilgrims and had also resulted in fatalities earlier, the THDC was given the task to prepare the project by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board.

Chaired by Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra, Board in its 51st meeting today gave the approval.

The Board approved of five most vulnerable sites being treated, in the first phase, to prevent "shooting stones". It also approved the installation of a multipurpose audio system, along the entire track from Banganga to Bhawan, to enhance the ambiance and facilities for the pilgrims moving on the track.

The Board stressed that large scale Disaster Management Training programmes must be carried regularly for ensuring preparedness against any disaster.

Keeping in view the ever increasing strength of pilgrims to the shrine, the Board approved of consultant H L Maini's proposal that a preliminary study should be conducted from an agency to assess the optimum capacity of the existing tracks.

These steps may be taken for securing faster movement of pilgrims.
