Telangana CM announces plan to launch cleanliness campaign

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao today announced plans to launch a major cleanliness campaign in the city.

According to a release issued by his office here, Rao addressed a preparatory meeting on 'Swachh Telangana-Swachh Hyderabad' and said that Hyderabad would be divided into 400 zones for the purpose of the campaign.

The Telangana Chief Minister, ministers and officials would be in-charge of each zone, the release said.

The campaign is scheduled to begin from May 16 and people entrusted with responsibilities would collect information about what needs to be done.

As part of the drive, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) would provide equipment and vehicles to collect garbage, the release said.
 

Rao said that Rs 200 crore would be allocated to meet local cleanliness and other requirements in residential colonies of the city.

He also said that 'Haritha Haram' (a major tree plantation programme) would be taken up in July, when about three crore saplings would be planted in the city.

The Chief Minister said that a signal-free traffic system would be put in place in Hyderabad at a cost of Rs 20,000 crore, according to the release.

A smartphone application has been created on 'Swachh Hyderabad' and information about the initiative may be exchanged on messaging services as well as social networking sites, it said.
