Telangana DGP Anurag Sharma has directed senior police officers to crack whip on illegal activities like playing 'matka' and cancel permissions of gambling dens, if any, in the state.

In a tele-conference with SPs of all ten Telangana districts yesterday, the DGP asked them to strictly observe peace and maintain law and order down to the villages level and ensure vigilant and stringent action against all illegal activities like gambling and matka dens in their areas.

Warning of initiating stringent action against erring officials, the DGP cautioned all SHOs and district police chiefs that stringent disciplinary action will be initiated against them in the event of any complaint and report of such activities occurring in their jurisdiction.

"In view of the directions from the top cop, police carried out a major drive today against illegal gambling activities across the state by raiding illegal matka and gambling dens at 19 locations and arrested 152 persons and seized Rs 4.80 lakh," according to an official release.
