Telangana firm on welfare of SC/STs, minister tells Assembly

Telangana Government today said it is committed to the welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes and effectively implementing the SC/ST sub plan meant for spending funds based on the population figures between the SC and STs in the state.

Making a statement before a short discussion on "SC-ST Sub-Plan and economic support schemes implemented for their welfare, in the State Assembly, G Jagadish Reddy, Minister for Social Welfare, said on the whole Rs 6,317 crore was spent on SCs and Rs 3,942 crore on STs in the current budget so far.

"I am proud to announce that the government is spending more funds other than those allocated under the SC/ST sub plan. When compared to the past, during these two and half years the government had spent more money under the SC/ST sub plan. This is what I would like to bring to the notice of this House," he said.
 

He also said the state government is giving top priority to the welfare sector and implementing 33 welfare schemes at a cost of Rs 30,000 scrore.

"SC and ST are benefitted more through these welfare programmes. Out of the amount being spent on the poor, a major portion is directly reaching the SC and STs," he said.
