A business chamber today requested the Telangana government to exempt small industries from the two-day weekly power holiday enforced by it, saying the move is causing production and financial losses.

Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FAPCCI) said the power holiday is causing huge production and financial losses to the industrial units, particularly the small facilities.

"FAPCCI has brought to the notice of Energy Department officials that small units cannot afford DG (distributed generation) power. Also, unlike large industries they do not have the open access facility under dedicated feeders. Hence, they should be given respite from power holiday," Federation said in a statement here.

The energy officials informed that power holiday will continue till November first week. And once the agriculture requirement is met, power holiday will be reduced to one day a week, it said.

The TRS Government recently announced that it was increasing power holiday for industries in Telangana to two days a week from the earlier once a week to overcome electricity shortage in the State.
