A UP-cadre IPS officer sustained minor injuries due to rifle recoil during a firing practise session in the neighbouring Ranga Reddy district of Telangana today, police said.

The incident took place during a field tactic course organised by the SVP National Police Academy in a forested area at Anantagiri in Vikarabad mandal.

Anand Kulkarni, an IPS officer of 2008 batch who is currently serving as Railway Police Superintendent in Uttar Pradesh, sustained "minor bleeding injuries", according to police.

Kulkarni was admitted to a hospital in Hyderabad and his condition was stable, District Superintendent of Police B Rajakumari said.

"It was a general exercise of firing blank rounds when there was a rifle recoil in which the IPS officer jarred his shoulders. It was a mild injury, though he was shifted to a hospital for check-up," an official of the academy said.
