The city police today foiled an attempt by the Osmania University students to take out a march to the Assembly to protest Telangana government's alleged delay in filling of over one lakh vacancies.

The students, under the banner of Telangana Vidyarthi Nirudyogula JAC (TVNJAC) and OUJAC took out the march as a part of their 'chalo Assembly' agitation from the Arts College, but were stopped at the NCC Gate on the campus.

"Twenty students were taken into preventive custody," said the assistant commissioner of police Ch Laxminarayana.

Tension prevailed at the varsity for some time as some students threw stones at the police after they were stopped.

"We observed restraints...There was no lathi-charge," the ACP said.

The students then shouted slogans against the government's delay in filling of over one lakh vacancies in various departments.
